Philosophy is of very real importance because it helps us to address some of the ethical problems which the advance of science and technology have created. The economic theories of Adam Smith which have had a major bearing in the development of trade around the world, had a philosophical background.
The youth culture has given rise to a wide variety of view about what is good and bad in popular the popular arts. Philosophy helps us to define aesthetic taste, and how cultural trends should be assessed in the light of the Christian outlook.
